<image:title>Academic - COMMUNITY: First Annual Idea Stage Pitch Competition - Background</image:title>
<image:caption>During my two year undergraduate fellowship with the Blackstone LaunchPad, I was constantly tasked with promoting entrepreneurship. I wanted to find a new way to get all students excited about entrepreneurship. I decided to make it a semester-long project to create the first annual Idea Stage Pitch Competition — an event focused on getting students without actual businesses and prototypes to be active participants in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.</image:caption>

<image:title>Academic - COMMUNITY: First Annual Idea Stage Pitch Competition - Process</image:title>
<image:caption>There were nearly 40 applications following various marketing efforts. The 10 accepted idea-stage companies met with Blackstone LaunchPad mentors from the Austin community as well as myself once a week for three weeks. Additionally, after the competition all teams received feedback from and connected with the judges. The 10 teams grew their skills, experiences, and network tremendously throughout the university and Austin entrepreneurial ecosystems in a matter of weeks.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Academic - ENTREPRENEURSHIP: KicksAssist - Project</image:title>
<image:caption>KicksAssist, an application I conceived during an undergraduate entrepreneurship class, bridges the gaps between sneaker retailers for consumers. There is commonly a divide between what the consumer believes they are purchasing and what the retailer is providing. An example of this is when shoes look different in person or on feet than expected.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Academic - ENTREPRENEURSHIP: KicksAssist - Process</image:title>
<image:caption>I conducted two rounds of user research in addition to market research. Through several iterations, I evolved a solution to the problem at hand for the semester-long project. During the project development, I also created a business model and a prototype demo.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Academic - ENTREPRENEURSHIP: KicksAssist - Solution</image:title>
<image:caption>The challenges of purchasing shoes online and in-store can be best solved with computer vision, augmented reality, and a sneaker sizing index. KicksAssist is not a competitor to sneaker retailers but rather an add on to improving the shoe shopping experience through technology. (pitch deck and demo below)</image:caption>

Soon after receiving our design brief, requirements, and resources, we conducted our first round of user interviews through dScout. We performed secondary research to understand the product landscape, habits, aspirations, and tensions of our users. Eight dScout interviewees were selected from several hundred applicants through screener questions and videos. We developed journey maps, tensions, insights, and frameworks to organize our findings and support our ideation for potential solutions.</image:caption>

Through various brainstorming sessions we developed a wide range of solutions that was presented during design reviews and prototyped . Our second round of dScout interviews was with our original eight people and included continued ethnographic research and a first round of prototype testing. At this stage, the prototypes were detailed sketches.</image:caption>

<image:caption>As part of my Commercializing Innovations course, sponsored by the Innovation and New Ventures Office of Northwestern and the Kellogg School of Management, I participated in a 10-week long project to develop a business model and business strategy around a piece of deep technology intellectual property. The technology was developed by AI leader Larry Birnbaum. My group consisted of five Kellogg (MBA) students and one EDI student (myself). Dr. Birnbaum created the technology to predict and target users’ preferences based on their Twitter posts and data. The technology uses artificial intelligence but is most unique through its use of natural language processing. We focused on product and business strategy through our market and design research. My team interviewed nearly 50 people to find product-market fit.</image:caption>

<image:caption>My team interviewed nearly 50 people with various, applicable experiences such as marketing, consumer products, and natural language processing. We quickly realized how saturated the social media marketing space is. While this technology was novel when it was patented over six years ago, the technology is less unique today. In order to commercialize the technology, we needed to pivot our strategy and data source/s.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Academic - THESIS: Urban and Micro Mobility - Project</image:title>
<image:caption>I completed my thesis over a 20-week sprint in a self-selected area. I dug deep into several rounds of research, design, and strategy in order to uncover the opportunity and land on the solution. Project Description: Transportation modes for short and medium length trips in urban areas are ever-evolving to improve cost efficiency, sustainability, and safety. For people to take full advantage of evolving urban and micro mobility offerings, people need a suitable digital planning and aggregation solution. Mobilize maps offers personalized transportation planning and aggregation across transportation modes, situations, and other variables. Mobilize is a mindful solution, which elevates cities through environmental consciousness and local business partnerships.</image:caption>

<image:title>Academic - Designing Product Interactions: Integrated Experiences - Class Background</image:title>
<image:caption>Designing Product Interactions (DPI) is a course offered by Segal Design Institute at Northwestern University. The course is taught by Craig Sampson who founded and directed the IDEO Chicago office for 16 years. DPI focuses on understanding design across industries and products such as consumer products, music/sound, psychology, haptics, augmented/virtual reality, and more. For every course assignment and project, we focused on the DPI framework on the right. This course was a phenomenal experience in understanding how people interact with physical products and human-centered design.</image:caption>

<image:title>Academic - Designing Product Interactions: Integrated Experiences - Emotional Box (Urgency)</image:title>
<image:caption>Ask: Each team designed and built an interactive box, 16” x 12” x 4”, with the top surface serving as a lid, attached along the rear edge. While the functional interaction is the same for all teams, each team had the interaction design goal to elicit a particular emotion in the user when they open the box. This was not about what was in the box, but about the properties of the box and the experience of opening it. My group’s emotion was urgency. We created a three-part timed, gamified, and problem-solving experience. Demo Video Process Images One-pager Project Explanation Midpoint Presentation</image:caption>

<image:title>Academic - Designing Product Interactions: Integrated Experiences - Activated Doormat</image:title>
<image:caption>Ask: The goal of the final demo for this course was to bring together and apply the principles discussed in this course in a provocative and illustrative manner. The demo was an illustrative bilateral (you interact with it and it interacts with you), multi-sensory, human-product interaction. You should illustrate your understanding of established human routines and emotional experiences. The demo had to span across the physical and digital worlds. My group focused on how to evolve the everyday routine of stepping on a doormat. Hypothetically, the activated doormat would be a part of a person’s smart home in order to lock/unlock a door, turn lights on/off, and more. Our prototype focuses on the experience of how an activated doormat can unlock/lock a front door as the user enters/exits. <image:title>Academic - Designing Product Interactions: Integrated Experiences - Future of Bathroom Stall Doors</image:title>
<image:caption>Ask: Using insights into human needs and knowledge of available technologies, we had to create a new door concept that is useful and compelling – even inspiring. The solutions needed to demonstrate an understanding of a range of human senses, perceptions, preconceptions, and actions. After understanding the history of bathroom stall doors and current interaction experiences, we developed a hands-free, manual, and accordion-style door. The door can be closed, locked, and opened with the user’s forearm or elbow without taking away space in the stall like current bathroom stall doors. <image:title>Academic - ANALYTICS: Shortening NBA Broadcasts - Project</image:title>
<image:caption>As part of the entertainment industry, a trending conversation in professional sports is how to shorten game lengths without changing the actual sport and its revenue streams. Sports viewers’ attention spans continue to decrease. Despite the NBA being a leader in the category, and the MLB being a laggard, the NBA continues to push for its contests to last just two hours. Professor Kirk Goldsberry, a current NBA ESPN analyst and leader in basketball analytics, encouraged me to attack the two hour goal with a unique opportunity for my report to be presented to the NBA. This project was completed for my sports analytics course at the University of Texas.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Academic - ANALYTICS: Shortening NBA Broadcasts - Process</image:title>
<image:caption>This project included a deep dive into game broadcasts. I broke down and charted every second of multiple NBA broadcasts. I charted over 1,000 minutes of NBA broadcasts. Then, I uploaded spreadsheets to Tableau to analyze. I used data visualizations and market research to drive my final report.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Academic - ANALYTICS: Shortening NBA Broadcasts - Process</image:title>
<image:caption>For example, I was able to discover, through Tableau, over five minutes per broadcast are wasted during timeouts. The NBA needs faster transitions before and after timeouts, or they need to include additional advertisements.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Academic - ANALYTICS: Shortening NBA Broadcasts - Conclusions</image:title>
<image:caption>The NBA, which currently averages around two hours and twenty minutes per game, can strategically shorten game broadcasts by at least seven to ten minutes without removing revenue generating content. If the NBA removes the new coach’s challenge rule, there is an additional two minutes that can be shaved off. (full report hyperlinked below)</image:caption>

<image:caption>During my undergraduate internship at co:collective, I was immersed in developing materials for the Do Or Die workshop. The workshop focuses on the survival skills to avoid disruptions and create disruption in your industry. I worked alongside design and innovation leaders to build the curriculum and deliverables for the workshop. I was responsible for creating a case repository of companies that caused disruptions, were disrupted, avoided disruption, and everything in between. I wrote pieces on Harley Davidson, Toys “R'“ Us, Hummer, Bird, GameStop, Blockbuster, and more.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Do Or Die gave me an incredible opportunity to dive deeper into corporate innovation. I was able to draw conclusions on what happened to companies like Blockbuster other than streaming services were evolving rapidly. I commonly found that companies were focused on the wrong mission, or quest as it is called at co:. This gave me perspectives to make predictions on the next companies to be disrupted if they did not participate in a workshop like Do Or Die.</image:caption>
